Star Wars: Lords of the Sith, Paul Kemps

Ok ok.. I know what you’re all thinking. I am a Star Wars fan, so what?

Now that I’m done being defensive, I picked up this book for my trip to Paris because I always get sleepy on planes when I read non-fiction. I thought I could use a good fast paced fiction novel to keep my attention while I stayed up all night and tried to adjust to Paris time on the plane. And it worked well! This book is a new series in the line of the “new cannon” of Star Wars book. Star Wars fans and authors have been writing books since the late 80’s, but when Disney inherited the rights to Star Wars in 2012 (I believe?), they announced the new trilogy of movies that were to happen after “The Jedi Strikes back.” By this time, dozens of books had been written following the events of Jedi, so to keep the storylines from conflicting with the movie, they announced that all books written before this current series were considered “non-cannonical” which upset many in the Star Wars community.

This series however, is “canonical” and is leading up to the events in the first movie. It follows a group of freedom fighters as they try to take down the Emperor and Darth Vader.

That’s the most basic synopsis and that’s all you really need to know about the book. It was entertaining but somewhat corny throughout. I enjoyed it because I’m a Star Wars fan, but I doubt those not interested in Star Wars would at all be interested.
